[/center]"We have plenty of time to work on it," I reminded him.
"Forever and forever and forever," he murmured.
"That sounds exactly right to me."
And then we continued blissfully into this small but perfect piece of our forever . . .
-- BELLA & EDWARD, BREAKING DAWN, THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
Time, so insignificant for some, while for others it means absolutely everything. Time is one of the greatest gifts the Cullens posses. They have forever. But at what cost? From the moment Edward Cullen lay eyes on Isabella Marie Swan in Forks, Washington it seemed they would face an innumerable amount of challenges for their love to persevere. The sadistic tracker James, his mate Victoria, the treaty with Quileute tribe, and the Volturi; danger after danger but never once did they falter. The "forever" they sought together was well earned. The Cullen family remains united and strong, enjoying their tiny fraction of forever peacefully tucked away in Hanover, New Hampshire. Everything seems to have fallen right into place like a finished puzzle.
Four years worth of time has trickled slowly by since Bella and Edward's wedding and the rather unorthodox birth of their hybrid daughter Renesmee. She grows healthy and beautiful, well into her teenage years already close to the age of maturity; for a half-vampire at least. Her attachment to the wolf shape-shifter, Jacob Black, has grown exponentially as well. It is this attachment that brings the Cullens back to visit Forks regularly. A more permanent stay appears to be in the near future which makes the family uneasy. They are resigned however, and as accepting of Nessie and Jacob's relationship as can be expected. They don't have much of a choice with there being no way around the magical bond of imprinting between them. At any rate it was quite obvious that Jake would be good for Nessie in the long run.
It didn't seem like the Cullens would be facing anymore serious problems aside from the trivialities of a slightly rebellious, teenage vampire girl. They remain blissfully unaware of the danger brewing elsewhere. Even Alice does not foresee any problems in the immediate future; at least nothing of any real consequence directed at them, but it is still especially difficult for her to see around Renesmee and the shape-shifting Quileutes. Despite being blind, with out Alice's ability working properly, the family remains untroubled. The worst of their fears, the Volturi, were put to rest long ago after when they made their stand against them in the clearing. They do not believe the Volturi would return without any further reason to. Four years of peaceful living lulled the Cullens and their friends into a false sense of security.
Unfortunately things are not as well as the Cullens would like to believe. The day of the Volturi's confrontation with the Cullens, Caius left the clearing dissatisfied, and more than just a little disappointed with his brothers. The opportunity to obliterate the large family of vampires had been great, a sweet victory. Aro had foolishly let the opportunity slip through their fingers with Marcus just as complacent. The humiliation of defeat was not something that Caius would soon forget. He harbors a desire for revenge and will not rest until the Cullens are all destroyed. Caius's ill conceived quest sets off a chain of events that no one is prepared for. Unease has risen among the Volturi and they are divided. There are some who would follow Caius and others that who are entirely opposed to his vendetta against the vegetarian vampires. Caius and his followers have deserted Volterra. Slowly, his group grows in number, stronger. No one knows what will happen next or what form his revenge will take. The rest of the Volturi seem mostly unconcerned with the desertion for now, but for how long? Dark times loom in the horizon, but one thing is for certain; the future is not set in stone.
what will you make of it?
